TrashMe 2.1.15 with Touch Bar and TouchID

We’ve just released a new version 2.1.15 of our uninstaller TrashMe for macOS with some new features and bug fixes. The update is available on the Mac App Store and is recommended for everyone.

First, we’ve implemented preliminary support for the Touch Bar introduced with latest MacBook Pro. This Touch Bar at the top of your keyboard adapts to what you’re doing and gives you intuitive shortcuts and app controls when you need them. With this version 2.1.15 of TrashMe, you can easily navigate through different parts of the app and perform some actions. For sure, we’ll improve Touch Bar support in next release.

Among other new features, you’ll find the ability to use TouchID to protect your favorite apps data. With MacBook Pro late 2016, Apple introduced their famous TouchID, a fingerprint reader used to unlock your Mac and make purchases. When available, we use TouchID instead of asking you to create a password.

Last, we’ve added a crash logs option in “Delete caches” tool, in order to easily remove all reports created by apps when they crash. We’ve also improved general usability, updated localizations and fixed some bugs reported by our fellow users.

Celebrating 6 years of TrashMe

In April 2010, we were launching our best-seller app, TrashMe, a powerful uninstaller for Mac. And one year later, TrashMe was available on the brand new Mac App Store launched by Apple.

We’ve constantly updated TrashMe during those 6 years. Many users contacted us to suggest new features and report bugs and we’d like to thank all of them. In the past few weeks, TrashMe development was focused on reliability: dozens of bugs have been fixed and we’ve improved search algorithm. But, we also added some nice features (get warning when your Trash is oversized, automatically close TrashMe after uninstallation, search for orphans…).

To say “Happy Birthday TrashMe”, we’re offering today a new release 2.1.12, available on the Mac App Store. And as a bonus, TrashMe is 50% off for a limited time. Enjoy!

TrahsMe is only 3.99 US$, available on the Mac App Store (limited-time offer).

TrashMe 2.1.7 released

Today, we’re pleased to announce a new release for our uninstaller “TrashMe”. This new 2.1.7 version fixes a lot of bugs and other crashes. Thus, it’s highly recommended to update.

We’ve also refreshed the design a little bit, getting rid of colored buttons for a more textual replacement. You’ll also be able to get back to previous page in most parts of the app. Last but not least, there are two bonus features: you can search for new types of junk files (big files, old files) and you can now delete startup items.

And don’t forget to download our free add-on in order to delete files requiring admin password.

Uninstallers accuracy

We’ve started to develop our best-seller TrashMe in 2010. Since then, we’ve drastically improved the algorithm to be as accurate as possible when searching for related files to delete. Because our customers don’t want to remove critical files from their system. Because our customers want to rely on an accurate search engine.

Some uninstallers are not so accurate. For example, we compared TrashMe to iTrash when uninstalling CloudApp application (see picture below). At first glance, iTrash gives us more results: 10 files instead of 5 files for TrashMe. But look at the results: even with the “Expert mode” disabled, iTrash is inaccurate, listing some critical files used for Apple iCloud settings. 5 files among the 10 files founds are completely wrong.

We’ve tried uninstalling other applications and found similar issue: when uninstalling Adobe Illustrator, TrashMe is finding 5 related files where iTrash is finding 34 files offering us to remove all Adobe settings (Photoshop, Acrobat…) !

So, be careful, always choose an uninstaller with high accuracy.
TrahsMe is only 7.99 US$, available on the Mac App Store.

TrashMe 2.1.6 has been released

Today, we’re pleased to announce a new release for our uninstaller “TrashMe”. This new 2.1.6 version is mostly a bug-fixing release : all glitches occurring on 10.9 Mavericks are now fixed and we’ve improved scrollbars. In addition, we’ve also implemented a better algorithm to find related files (more files will be found) and a new setting is now available to auto-close TrashMe after uninstalling an application.

And don’t forget to download our free add-on in order to delete files requiring admin password.

Why TrashMe does not uninstall some apps?

Many users are posting some comments on the Mac App Store about TrashMe being unable to uninstall apps. We also receive some emails about the same “issue”, so we think it’s time to clarify this restriction a little bit more.

First, you need to know that publishing an application on the Mac App Store is something quite difficult, especially for small developers. Apple has written very restrictive rules that developers must conform to. One of these rules is about privileges: an application must not ask for user’s password in any case.

But some applications installed on your Mac have special privileges, mostly applications installed through the Mac App Store. You can test by yourself: if you try to put one of those apps to the Trash, OS X will ask for your account’s password. The problem is that TrashMe can’t ask for your password due to Apple restrictions. This is why you can see a warning message when this situation occurs. Hopefully, we’ve developed a small add-on that will allow you to uninstall this sort of applications, by asking your password.

We think this is a balanced solution: being on the Mac App Store is a chance for us, because it’s very easy to buy and update application for end-users. We didn’t find any alternative, after many hours spent to discuss with Apple employees. So, we hope our customers will understand that this is not an issue, but “on-purpose”…

TrashMe 2.1.4 is available

We’ve updated our application TrashMe, mostly to fix bugs. Smart detection was sometimes popping improperly, after you’ve restarted your computer. We’ve also fixed some cosmetic bugs and some issues with history (search was not working and sort order was ascending instead of descending). Among improvements, we’ve added spanish translation (thanks to Jose Manuel Calero) and related files results are now showing filesize.
