Future improvements in TrashMe

We’re currently working hard on improving our uninstaller « TrashMe ». First, we’re developing a new tool to search for junk files, those little files completely uselesss even though they don’t take too much space on your hard drive. For example, when you copy folders from an old Windows partition, you may find a lot of useless « Desktop.ini » and « Thumbs.db ». Even with Mac OS X, you may want to delete « .git », « .svn » or « .DS_Store » files. Next version of TrashMe will help you searching and removing this kind of files.

The other feature we’re working on is the « Orhpans search ». This feature was part of TrashMe 1.x but was not perfect as it was searching only for Preferences files left by already uninstalled applications. So we decided to wait a little bit before getting the feature back into TrashMe, because we want something more powerful. This feature will be back either in upcoming version or the next one, depending on a beta test we will offer.

Be sure that we listen carefully to our customers feedback, so don’t hesitate to contact us if you’ve got some specific requests.

TunesArt 1.5 today on the Mac App Store

Today, Apple approved our application « TunesArt », a great companion for iTunes, which you can buy on the Mac App Store.

This new version is compatible with Lion and new versions of iTunes and we’ve added a lot of new features : Twitter support, Tags manager, new theme (others can can be downloaded here), ratings directly in your menubar and a time slider on desktop controls (for full changelog, go to TunesArt page). We’ve listened to our customers and integrated most of popular requests.

By the way, we’d like to answer two common objections:

The application was free and now we have to pay.
Actually, we decided to offer a version with neaw features on the Mac App Store, instead of just putting previously available version. We charge only a few dollars for TunesArt and comparing to other apps, you’ve got more features (lyrics, Twitter, Tags manager…). Don’t forget you’ve got free updates and you can install TunesArt on your different computers. Last, donators may contact us to request a free copy.

Download of lyrics has gone!
In order to comply with Apple rules on the Mac App Store, we removed the automatic donwload of Lyrics (TunesArt has been rejected three times just because of this feature). This is a matter of copyrights, and we’re looking for a way to get this feature back, either with LyricWiki or another provider. For the moment, the lyrics window will inform you if lyrics are available on LyricWiki and you’ll be able to open the lyrics webpage. Then, you can use our new feature « Paste from clipboard » to paste and save lyrics with one click.

We really hope you’ll enjoy TunesArt, and hurry up, discount price will end the 14th of August!
Check TunesArt product page.

TrashMe 2.0 is now available

After several weeks of hard work, we are pleased to announce that TrashMe 2.0 is now available on the Mac App Store. This is a major update with a brand new user interface and great new features. Along with our powerful uninstall mechanism, we’ve added a « Favorite apps » manager where you can store registration information and other notes. We’ve also integrated a caches cleaner and a tool to delete only some files in your Trash. Note that you need to download a small add-on in our FAQ to be able to remove apps with admin privileges (this is an App Store restriction).

Our application is compatible with Lion. Just one note about the uninstall mechanism built in 10.7: Lion is able to « uninstall » only apps downloaded from the Mac App Store, and not the other ones. In addition, Lion is only removing the main bundle and not its related files. So, even with Lion, TrashMe is very useful!

You can buy TrashMe at a discount price until 26th of July 2011 on the Mac App Store. Read more on this page.

Welcome to our new website

To celebrate the forthcoming arrival of our applications to the Mac App Store, we decided to redesign our website. This new version, entirely « home-made », is cleaner, simpler, nicer.

The forum has been closed because it was hard to maintain. Instead, we encourage our fellow customers to check our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), where we’ll add a lot more questions/answers in the next couple of weeks. Our contact form has been improved, as it’s the best way to send us bug report and request assistance. Feel free to contact us, we usually answer in 24-48 hours (in English and in French).

Last, we’re pleased to offer a bilingual website. This is quite obvious for a French company, but it’s also a lot of work, because we don’t use automatic translation.
